Kalita Jia (73), who served as the country's prime minister, was allegedly receiving a donation of two and a half million US dollars abroad for her charitable trust named Jiaur Rahman.

Investigating the allegations, Kalita Jia has been accused of using her power in the biggest financial scandal. Kalita Jia was sentenced to five years in jail in a special court in Dhaka. He has been sentenced to death in a separate case in Dhaka.

In this case, the parliamentary elections are scheduled for December 30. Kalita Jia, the head of Bangladesh nationalist party and former prime minister, has been serving a jail term in two corruption cases to contest this election.

Kalita's attorney stated in her petition that she would appeal to the conviction and allow her to contest the election as she is out of prosecution.
