The Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS), the ruling Congress party in the last assembly elections held on December 7, retained power. Of the 119 seats in the ruling Telangana Rashtriya Samithi won 88 seats.
Chandrasekara Rao, who contested the Kajewal assembly seat, defeated Congress candidate Pratap Reddy by 51 thousand votes. Chandrasekara Rao's son KD Rama Rao and his son-in-law Harish Rao also won by a large margin.
Following this, Telangana Rashtriya Samiti started functioning. Chandrasekhara Rao resigned as a new government. The resignation letter was sent to the Governor.
