International media analyst and media critic Mohan Samaranayake said that the overall outcome of the long-term economic, social, political and cultural problems in the country was a political event in October (26) and that the general election would be a long-term solution.He said this at a media conference held at Mahaweli Kendra on Tuesday (28).
He said: "The current parliament can not find a solution to the political problem in the country. The majority of people's representatives are paying for the money. So people have the opportunity to start a new political journey.
Some even claim that the constitutional collapse is the cause of the present situation. But that's not true. This problem has been confronted by countries like Sri Lanka after independence. The situation would have worsened if the president did not take the decision to change the prime minister on October 26.
There is a long-term solution to the current political problem. However, senior lecturer Dhamma Dissanayake said that a short-term solution is required to conduct a general election. All other constitutions and amendments except the 1972 constitution are based on political power. The current political system must be revised. Parliamentary posts should not be granted to MPs. He said the candidate should be given the option of choosing candidates to contest the election.
