Sri Lankan President Sirisena has said that the parliamentary tradition, once again, has appointed Ranil Wickramasinghe as prime minister in view of defending democracy. #Sirisena #RanilWickramasinghe

Sri Lankan President Sirisena's resignation to retain Ranil
Colombo:
President Sirisena dismissed Ranil Wickremesinghe from Prime Minister on 26 October, due to a conflict between Ranil Wickramasinghe and Chiranjeevi, the leader of the United National Party (UNP) in Sri Lanka. Former president Rajapaksa was appointed as new prime minister. Strong resistance has shifted across the country.
To deal with this, Sirisena ordered the dissolution of the parliament and the new elections. Supreme Court ruled that his action was illegal, and his cabinet was banned. Rajapaksa resigned yesterday because of the crisis.
Ranil Wickramasinghe took the post again as prime minister yesterday. President Sirisena made a sworn oath to him.
Sirisena who had already said that Ranil Wickramasinghe could not be appointed as prime minister was explaining why he changed the decision. Sirisena spoke in front of the party leaders:
Only after consulting with senior lawyers and former chief judges I made every action. I have acted on good terms. I will remember it in history.
I am announcing a new electoral announcement to remove the prime minister from the post of voting for the 1½-crore people's vote. But 122 MPs blocked it. Ranil Wickramasinghe has been appointed Prime Minister again in this context to protect Parliamentary tradition and democracy.
He spoke thus.
India has welcomed a solution to the political confusion in Sri Lanka. Indian State Department spokesperson Ravish Kumar said:
India welcomes the political turmoil in Sri Lanka as a neighbor and country as a real ally. It is the victory for maturity and the strength of democracy that all political forces have revealed.
We believe that friendship between India and Sri Lanka will travel upwards. India is committed to promoting public interest in Sri Lanka.
He said so. #Sirisena #RanilWickramasinghe
